Founded on August 1st, 2015, The Niagara County Libertarian Party is the official chapter of the Libertarian Party of New York for Niagara County. Our objective as a political organization is to enhance personal and economic liberty for residents in our county through education, activism, and running candidates for office.

What is Libertarianism?

Libertarianism, or classical liberalism for those who study political theory, is a political ideology born out of the Enlightenment that maintains that all individuals have the natural rights to life, liberty and justly-acquired property, and we have a duty, as a society, to respect these rights by not infringing on them. Looking at the Declaration of Independence (1776), the influence of this ideas is evident, and is thus, the very foundation upon which our nation was built.

What is the Libertarian Party?

While the libertarian ideology has a long and rich history, the Libertarian Party is relatively new. Founded on December 11, 1971 in response to the Vietnam War, conscription (i.e., the draft), and the end of the gold standard, the Libertarian Party seeks to promote civil liberties, free markets, and a foreign policy of non-interventionism. Today, it is the third largest political party in America, and the only political party that respects the individual and marketplace enough to leave it alone.
